About Me

Hello!

Thank you so much for visiting my little piece of the Web. The Yummy Pixel is a food photography blog where I will share with you my adventures in the kitchen and behind the lens. Incidentally, these are the two places where I’m happiest and most inspired – and what a better way to put those together than to share them with the world! 🙂

I have been cooking and baking for as long as I can remember – the first thing I can remember making were crepes when I was 6 or 7. I remember flipping a crepe in the pan by throwing it up in the air and trying to catch it on the way down (this is the way my mom did it). But, I was a little overzealous and inexperienced in my wrist action, so instead of the crepe landing in the pan, it got stuck to the ceiling :). You would think this would deter me from baking, but instead it pushed me to practice more. Needles to say, an amateur baker was born 🙂

As far as photography goes, I have always loved taking photos, playing with the light, angles and colours. But it was only 3 years ago when I discovered digital single lens reflex cameras, and a whole new world opened up. My first camera was a Nikon so when I upgraded to a DSLR, I kept with the Nikon tradition, and by far prefer it over other brands. Currenly I’m using a Nikon D90 and all the photographs on this blog are taken with a prime 50mm lens. Ever since I got this lens for a present, I have been in love with it.  Its 1.4 aperture creates an incredible depth of field, and is perfect for food photography. All the photos in this blog I try to take in natural light, as I find that it works best to keep the colours of the food as natural as possible. However, there have been a few times when I was forced to shoot under an artificial white light. I don’t consider myself an expert by any means – many of my photos are trial and error and I do what looks best to me. So, I welcome any comments, suggestions and questions. Besides food photography I enjoy taking photos of architecture, landscapes, flowers, nature and people. Please go to the Portfolio page to check out the rest of my portfolio.

A few months ago I thought the perfect way to combine the two things I enjoy the most is to write a food photography blog – so The Yummy Pixel was born. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.
